What is Flood Insurance?
Flood Insurance is never covered in a homeowners insurance policies. We offer flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program to cover flood damage caused by hurricanes, melting snow, rain and other events.
Owners may be required to obtain flood insurance by mortgage lenders if homes are in a high-risk area. It is a common misconception that owners in a moderate to low-risk area do not need it.
Why do homeowners need it?
Anywhere there is excessive rain, there is a potential for a flood. Here are some reasons flood insurance is needed:
- Flood insurance is not part of homeowners insurance policies.
- Flooding is more common than tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes.
- In the past five years, floods have affected all 50 states and more than 20% of all flood claims come from areas that are considered moderate to low-risk areas.
Coping with the aftermath of a flood is not only physically and emotionally trying, but can also be financially disastrous without flood insurance.
